Fizz Boom Read: Movement- Pre School

Be ready to wiggle, jump*, laugh, and play in this movement themed storytime!
*do not plan this storytime after you spent a night of contra dancing at a library school friends wedding and have incredibly sore calves

We started with our new opening song that I adapted from Rickety Tickety:
Fizzy, Boomy, Sciency,
Can YOU say your name for me?

Movement Songs & Rhymes

Dance Any Way You Want To
source: Librarian Jenna

Dance any way you want to
Dance any way you please
Dance any way you want to
But stop when I say freeze.
Jump as high as you want to…
Dance as fast as you want to…
Dance as slow as you want to…

Thumbs Up Chant
source: Jen in the Library

Thumbs up! (Do action, and have audience repeat the line back as they do it)
CHORUS
Thumbs up!
Arms out!
CHORUS
Thumbs up!
Arms out!
Feet apart!
CHORUS

Keep building until you are doing a lot of ridiculous movements all together.  My pattern of actions for this is usually: Thumbs up, Arms Out, Feet Apart, Knees Bent, Bottoms Out, Head Tilt, Tongue Out.

Shake Your Sillies Out- Wiggles

Icky Sticky Bubble Gum- David Landau

Wiggle It- Koo Koo Kanga Roo
if you have a projector this would be a fun music video to watch!

This was a very simple storytime to put together and required very little preparation!

  1. Great ideas! I love your blog!

Just FYI, the “Dance Any Way You Want To” is actually a song called “The Silly Dance Contest” by Jim Gill. He’s great – you should check out all of his CDs!
    Best,
    Emily
