Eric Carle Storytime

Eric Carle Storytime

This was my first time doing a storytime theme around one picture book author/illustrator!  I also did these group of books and songs when I did my outreach preschools for the month of February and each time it was a success! I started out by telling all of the kids that Eric Carle is someone who writes the words and sometimes draws the pictures for books and he wrote The Hungry Little Caterpillar, which most of them are already familiar with.

With my storytime group (I don’t do this in pre-k visits) we started with our opening song, Rickety Tickety.

Songs & Rhymes

Itsy Bitsy Spider
fingerplay

The itsy bitsy spider went up the waterspout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again

Clap Your Hands

Slowly, slowly, slowly clap your hands
Quickly, quickly, quickly clap your hands

stomp your feet, shake your bottom, wiggle your fingers

Fly, Fly, Fly

Sung to: “Three Blind Mice”

Fly, fly, fly
Ladybugs fly
Fly over here
Fly over there
They fly up high and they fly down low.
Around and around and around they go.
They fly fast, and they fly slow.
Oh, ladybugs fly

Head, Shoulders, Knees, Toes

I also did a Flannel Activity to The Artist Who Painted a Blue House which I will post a bit later!

Craft

I did a take home craft this week and prepared everything before attempting it which resulted in a CRAFT FAIL. The idea = great and can easily be changed.

First, here’s what I did:

Very Hungry Caterpillar Necklace

If you were to recreate this either a) don’t use a whole punch that the straws can fit through or b) get thicker straws
