Pete the Cat is always a big hit with my toddlers and by now most of them have it memorized. It is a lot of fun reading it with them! 1, 2, Buckle my Shoe was also a big hit because the parents started reading it along with me, which I always love.

Counting Songs & Fingerplays

Five Little Ducks
Five little ducks went out one day, (Hold up 5 fingers)
Over the hills and far away, (Put hand behind back)
Mama duck said “quack, quack, quack, quack!” (Use other hand to imitate a duck quacking)
But only four little ducks came back. (Bring out hand with only four fingers up)
One, two, three, four. (Count each of the four fingers)
Sad mama duck went out one day,
Over the hills and far away,
Mama duck said “quack, quack, quack, quack!”
And all of the five little ducks came back.
One, two, three, four, five!

I’m a Little Cuckoo Clocksource: Librarian Lisa

Tick tock, tick tock, I’m a little cuckoo clock.
Tick tock, tick tock, now it’s one o’clock.
Cuckoo! (jump once)
(Continue with two, three, four and five o’clock.)

I also used my flannel set from “Lots of Cars” and we counted the cars forwards (1-2-3-4-5) and backwards (5-4-3-2-1)
