Colors of the Rainbow

This week we started with talking about our favorite colors and getting name tags, which were stars in different colors. Once everyone was seated we started with our normal opening song, Hi, Hello.

Grey Squirrel, Grey Squirrel
shake your bushy tail!

Repeat as many times as you’d like using colors the kids choose/they are wearing and shaking your busy tails! This was an easy favorite and was continually requested weeks following.

Mary Wore Her Red Dress

Mary wore her red dress, red dress, red dress
Mary wore her red dress all day long

Substitute using the kids names and what he or she is wearing.

The library I work at has a lot of storytime materials made by the previous people in my position. This week I used flashcards that were already made that included basic shapes in different colors and had the kids tell me what colors and shapes were on each flashcard. The kids also liked matching up the colors and shapes after the activity.

Coffee Filter Sun Catcher

This is probably the most simple but most fun craft we have done to date! Basically, you just color with Crayola washable marks on a coffee filter in as many fun colors and designs as you want and then spray the filter with water, which will cause the colors to bleed together. It might be easiest to put the filters in a plastic baggie for the kids to take it home in without causing a mess.
