At the Beach

The name tags were suns in different colors and we started with our normal opening song, Hi Hello.
Since there was a beach or ocean summer reading theme at the library within the past few years there were a lot of beach decorations that I was able to use to transform the storytime room.

Songs and Fingerplays:

Going to the Ocean (“I’ve been working on the railroad”)
source

I am going to the ocean
to the ocean blue
I am going to the ocean
and you can come too!

We could watch the big blue waves
Rising up and rolling down
We could look for pretty sea shells
on the sandy ground

Come along with me
Come along with me
Come along with me to the deep blue sea
Come along with me
Come along with me today!

The Jellyfish
source

The jellyfish lives in the ocean
the jellyfish lives in the ocean
the jellyfish lives in the sea
the jellyfish lives in the ocean
oh jellyfish, swim by me!

Flannelboard:

The Sharks in the Sea

I cut these out separately, laminated them, and put velcro on the backs to use on the feltboard.

The sharks in the sea go chomp, chomp, chomp
chomp, chomp, chomp,
chomp, chomp, chomp.
The sharks in the sea go chomp, chomp, chomp
All day long.

The lobsters in the sea go pinch, pinch, pinch
The whale in the sea goes squirt, squirt, squirt
The clams in the sea go open and shut
The octopus in the sea goes wiggle, wiggle, wiggle
The seahorse in the sea rocks back and forth
The kids in the waves jump up and down

Craft:
Since the library already had a lot of Beach-themed craft supplies I just set them all out and let the kids go crazy with making a beach picture.
