ABC’s and 123’s

We start each storytime with the toddlers getting their name-tags. Today’s name-tags were the letters of the alphabet and they were to find the first letter of their name.

Once everyone was sitting down we did our weekly Opening Song, Hi Hello.
Hi, Hello, and How are you, how are you, how are you? (wave)
HI, Hello and How are you, how are you today?

Hello [insert kids name] how are you, how are you, how are you? (wave)
Hello [insert kids name] how are you today?
Give child a change to answer how they are doing that day

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, look bright and alive
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, I give my ice cream cone lots of licks
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, look up to heaven
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, turn around and wait
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, get in line!

Name Song
Meg begins with ‘M’
Meg begins with ‘M’
Two claps for Meg (clap clap)
Meg begins with ‘M’
[do with each child’s name]

Five Enormous Dinosaurs
Five enormous dinosaurs,
Letting out a roar,
One went away
And then there were four.
Four enormous dinosaurs,
Munching on a tree,
One went away
And then there were three.
Three enormous dinosaurs
Didn’t know what to do,

One went away
And then there were two.
Two enormous dinosaurs
Having lots of fun,
One went away
And then there was one.
One enormous dinosaur
Afraid to be a hero,
He (she) went away
And then there were zero.

SAM_4000

We spelled out our names and wrote our ages using caterpillars. I used the head template from DLTK and then let the kids write out the letters by themselves or with their caregivers on the rest of the circles.

Materials:
Printed paper
crayons or markers
glue sticks
