Flannel Friday: Teasing Mr. Alligator

Flannel Friday: Teasing Mr. Alligator

My addition to Flannel Friday this week is a flannel template for the Rhyme Teasing Mr. Alligator!  I did a monkey storytime about a month ago and the outline for that is here!

Teasing Mr. Alligator

Five little monkeys
Sitting in a tree
Teasing Mister Alligator:
“You can’t catch me.”
Along comes Mister Alligator,
Quiet as can be
And SNAPS that monkey
Right out of that tree!

Four little monkeys
Sitting in a tree
Teasing Mister Alligator:
“You can’t catch me.”
Along comes Mister Alligator,
Quiet as can be
And SNAPS that monkey
Right out of that tree!

Three little monkeys….
Two little monkeys…
One little monkey…

No more little monkeys
Sitting in a tree!

I made these adorable monkeys using a template that you can download!

How did it go?

Awesome!  The kids loved it! I had the monkey’s up on the flannel board and then used a puppet to SNAP them up!  Except, we did not have an alligator puppet so instead I used a dinosaur.  The kids thought it was hilarious and did not question the ability for monkey’s and dinosaur’s to exist in the same time period.

Flannel Friday this week is hosted by Sarah at Miss Sarah’s Storytime!

Monkey Storytime

Monkey Storytime

I have two more storytime’s to write about from my previous job before I Dig Into Reading this summer.  The first one is Monkey Business- a wild storytime all about Oo-oo Aa-aa’s! Our nametags were –surprise!– Monkey’s!

My flannel friday contribution this week is a flannel activity for Teasing Mr. Alligator and can be found here!

Monkey See, Monkey Do

The monkey claps, claps, claps his hands (clap hands)
The monkey claps, claps, claps his hands (clap hands)
Monkey see, monkey do
The monkey does the same as you! (point to children)
(I then let the kids pick what the monkey does… stomp feet, cover eyes, jump up and down, etc.)

Apples and Bananas

Monkey likes to eat, eat, eat
Apples and Bananas!
(and just change the sound of the vowels…)
Monkey likes to oot, oot, oot
ooples and banoonoos!

Craft

I used the monkey puppet idea from Danielle’s Place but just made my own monkey head. The kids then colored the heads in, attached them to a Popsicle stick, and picked any color pipe cleaner for the arms!

As of May 19, 2013 I am a graduate of the University of Wisconin, Madison School of Library and Informatoin Studies (whew– that’s a mouthful!).  The ceremony was very nice and our faculty speaker, Dorothea Salo, had an amazing and hilarious firefly themed speech.  Everyone even got to say a few words after we received our SLIS pin.

Thank you all for being such amazing followers of my new project and I am VERY excited to keep it going (especially now that I do not have any homework to do–ever again!!!)

As I mentioned previously, I have a new position as an LTE in the Children’s Department at the Verona Public Library, which is where I did my practicum last spring. I have worked one week so far and I LOVE it. My coworker (and friend!) Caitlin and I have already gotten to do some creative and fun stuff and I am looking forward to spending the rest of my summer here :)

I will be updating regularly again as well! I have a few storytime ideas from my previous job to blog about and then I will primarily be focusing on Dig into Reading stuff for the rest of the summer.

Enjoy your holiday weekend if you are in the U.S.! :)

Miss Meg.

My coworker, Caitlin (she doesn’t have a blog but here THIS is her twitter), and I made a display to countdown for the Summmer Reading Program, Dig Into Reading. We included two burrowing animals, some ants and worms (die-cuts), and some vegetables. If you have any questions on how we did anything specific or what we used feel free to leave a comment!
